Latin America has long been the world's primary source of caffeine. In fact, six regional countries produce more than half of the world's coffee.
The region's role in making and selling tea is less known. The strong tea tradition has long been confined to Asia and then popularized in the West by the British. It's believed that tea drinking began in China over 2,000 years ago.
Latin America’s tea offering, yerba mate, has recently gained worldwide appeal. In the US, one can now buy it in carbonated energy drink form or order bags of its more traditional form on Amazon.
