Over half of you (59%) got it right by guessing Gabriel Boric as the Latin American leader who is not related through family to his predecessor. Out of the other options, Luis Lacalle Pou’s father was president of Uruguay between 1990 and 1995, Xiomara Castro’s husband was president of Honduras between 2006 and 2009, and Bernardo Arévalo’s father was Guatemala’s first democratically elected president between 1945 and 1951.

🇧🇷 Brazil hosted the world’s most powerful leaders in its second-largest city this week for the 2024 G20 Rio de Janeiro summit. Bringing together the heads of the world’s largest economies, alongside representatives of both the European Union and African Union, Brazil’s G20 agenda had three primary focuses: social inclusion and the fight against hunger, energy transition, and reform of global governance institutions.
🇨🇱 Chile will team up with France, the Eurozone’s second-largest economy, to create the Franco-Chilean Binational Artificial Intelligence Center, a strategic cooperation agreement which which will run until 2035. The two countries will work together on research, training, and AI development in priority areas such as renewable energy, climate change, and health.
