🇦🇷 Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi has announced he’s moving to Miami to play for the Inter Miami team of Major League Soccer (MLS). Fresh off his December victory in the World Cup, the former star player for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain shocked the world by turning down a reported $1.6B three-year offer from the Saudi Professional League.
Latinometrics: Record offer aside, this move is huge, and allegedly could have something to do with Messi’s family not wishing to live in Riyadh. While details on his MLS deal have not been fully solidified and revealed, the league surely offered 35-year old Messi a revenue-sharing arrangement with both Apple TV+ and Adidas, which are MLS partners, as well as potentially being able to own part of the team upon retirement (similar to British player David Beckham, who made a similar move back in 2007).
