🇧🇷 Brazilian-American Lidiane Jones has been named the new CEO of Slack, whose instant messaging software boasts 10M+ daily active users from 150+ countries.
🇲🇽🇧🇴 Mexico’s CADIN and Bolivia’s CIDAC have been jointly awarded the 2022 Bartolomé de las Casas Prize for their work in defending and uplifting indigenous communities. The two organizations will share the €50K Spanish prize.
Latinometrics: Indigenous people make up large segments of all Latin American countries. Roughly half of Bolivians identify as indigenous, while over 23 million Mexicans did so in the 2020 census.
How do they support indigenous people? The 1980-founded Center for Research in Artisanal Design and Cooperative Marketing (CIDAC) advances sustainable development through the recovery and promotion of Bolivian native art, while the Alternative Center for Comprehensive Indigenous Development (CADIN) has fought since 1997 to further gender equality and indigenous rights for Mayan women.
🇵🇪 Peruvian Dina Boluarte has become the country’s first female president following the impeachment of President Pedro Castillo on December 7th.
