Managing a brand in the United States is challenging. According to YouGov.com, two-thirds of its citizens think the country is more divided than usual. And yet, companies continue to choose advertising campaigns around polarizing topics. Many social media accounts paint their logos in rainbow colors during Pride Month, or June, for everyone outside the US.
"Slacktivism" refers to companies that superficially support causes, often because it's profitable, or so they think. This past April, Bud Light saw the limits to such a strategy. The brand endured a long-running boycott led by conservatives after the company ran a marketing campaign with a famous transgender influencer.
