Can we officially crown Mexico as the hottest name of the past year in world trade? In the aftermath of the pandemic, numerous multinational companies, especially manufacturing ones, have realized that the country’s vast untapped potential for building resilient supply chains and workforces.
The economic benefits of this realization and attraction of capital have manifested in numerous ways, not least of which is the superpeso—the Mexican peso has appreciated 16%+ against the dollar in the past year.
Now, the country's trade balance with the US has been re-established to early 2000s dominance levels, kicking China back to second place.
There's no question that China has been the world's mightiest economic growth force in the 21st century.
