Most of you correctly guessed that Argentina, Brazil, and Chile make up the so-called ABC countries of Latin America, famous for emerging as the leading naval and economic powers in the region in the early 20th century. Fun fact: the 3 countries even sent representatives to mediate between the United States and Mexico at Niagara Falls during the Tampico Affair.

🇧🇷 Brazil has announced the results of its first issue of sustainable bonds in dollars. The National Treasury’s 7-year bond, to mature in 2031, was issued in the amount of $2B and experienced high demand from North American investors. The operation was led by the Itaú, JPMorgan Chase and Santander banks.
🇨🇴 Colombia’s deforestation level is down 70% in the first 9 months of this year over 2022 figures. This government estimate outpaces even the progress seen in neighboring Brazil, which has halved deforestation rates since January.
Latinometrics: Along with ‘total peace’ and ending new oil exploration, protecting the Amazon has been a priority for Colombian President Gustavo Petro since he took office last year. Colombia has a long history of needing to balance community economic needs, rainforest protection, and fighting illicit activities.
