Looks like 42% of you got it right: Paraguay of all countries broke the anti-incumbency trend in Latin America’s elections last year. In fact, the winning party in 2023, the Colorado Party, was also the last party to win reelection prior to the start of the trend in 2018. The Colorados have only been defeated once in the last 70 years (and they impeached the guy who beat them in 2008).

🇦🇷🇧🇷🇨🇱🇪🇨🇺🇾 Four South American countries have filed amicus briefs urging New York’s 2nd Circuit court to overturn a $16.1B ruling against Argentina. The governments of Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay are all urging for a reconsideration of the case, which deals with a 2012 nationalization of the Argentinean oil company YPF. President Javier Milei intends to reprivatize YPF, which was previously state-owned before 1993 and privatized between 1993 and 2012.
🇧🇷 Brazilian President Lula da Silva has seen his approval ratings dip slightly from January, from 52% to 47%, following a series of controversial diplomatic comments. The three-time president has had a successful first year in office, but now faces new challenges — along with Finance Minister Fernando Haddad — in avoiding a budgetary deficit this year.
